KAWAKI Women’s Network in Isabel and Choiseul province launched its association last week.

Coinciding with Arnavon Island’s declaration event, the KAWAKI Women’s Network was officially launched after being legally registered under the Charitable Act earlier last month.

KAWAKI is a combination of communities from Katupika in Choiseul, Wagina and Kia in Isabel province aimed at promoting peace and unity among women and men there.

Since its formation in 2013, the network has been providing women with training opportunities in household matters, women empowerment and conservation knowledge and skills.

The Chairlady for KAWAKI women’s network trust board, Mrs Marilyn Gedi said their intention to start the network in 2013 was basically to bring together three communities as one to share their common goal of conservation.

In their five-year running, Mrs Gedi said now women begin to know and understand each other along with their children, husbands and relatives and friends in Honiara.

“It has been a great pleasure having women united for a purpose of benefits, and we wanted to touch other women around Solomon Islands because we have lot of dispute, with conservation dispute solved,” Mrs Gedi said.

In the meantime, KAWAKI is setting its vision and mission to reach out to other women in Solomon Islands with an aim to adopting the concept of Arnavon conservation.

Minister Samuel Manetoali appreciates the women’s network which is expected to provide opportunities for awareness and management of the ACMP.

“I wish to congratulate you for this shared vision and successful establishment, and observed this occasion as a formal launch of your network—KAWAKI,” Minister Manetoali said.

The training KAWAKI network has gone through so far includes awareness against logging, catering, capacity building training and small business.
