Taiwan announces 2017 scholarship
THE Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in partnership with the Education Ministry of Solomon Islands (MEHRD) announces its 2017 Taiwan Scholarship programme.
The announcement was confirmed by the Taiwan office in Solomon Islands that applications are now open until March 15.
Taiwan office in Honiara encourages Solomon Islanders to lodge their application, and it is open to high school graduates who want to further their aspirations for advanced education abroad.
The Taiwan Scholarship Programme offered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the ROC (Taiwan) for advanced education in Taiwan as well as to promote bilateral exchanges and friendship between the peoples of Taiwan and Solomon Islands.
It will also offer each awarded student a five-year study grant, including first year of learning Mandarin Language as a compulsory requirement and subsequent four years of bachelor degree study.
Furthermore, a monthly allowance will be provided to meet the cost of tuition, board and lodge, local transport, utility bills, insurance, and study materials during the period.
Interested applicant Applicants should meet the following requirements;
- Solomon Islands citizens aged under 23 with Form Six or Seven Certificates and good academic record and moral character
- Not scholarship recipients sponsored by any ROC (Taiwan) government agencies or institutions in Taiwan
- Not exchange students who are admitted in Taiwan nor having records of scholarships being cancelled before.
Eligible students must submit their applications to the National Training Unit (NTU), Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development with the following documents;
- Taiwan Scholarship Application Form
- Proofs of highest educational qualifications and academic performance.
The National Training Unit will conduct initial review of all applications based on the eligibility requirements and selection criteria of the Taiwan Scholarship.
Following that, applicants who are on NTU’s Recommendation list will be notified by the ROC (Taiwan) Embassy to undergo a personal interview.
A semi-final list of candidates will subsequently be sent to the ROC (Taiwan) Foreign Ministry for final review, and final result will be announced by July 1, 2017.
In the mean time, copies of application form available at the ROC (Taiwan) Embassy at Panatina Plaza, Honiara City, from Monday to Friday during office hours.
