Six contestants start event by floating round the city

SIX contestants for Miss Solomon Islands Pageant traversed the street of Honiara in a boisterous float yesterday, with public enjoying the privilege to see the queens in their colourful attires.
The float began from the Coral Sea Resort and Casino to the roundabout at the Honiara City Council, and returned to Art Gallery.
Each contestant came in different style while parading.
Response from the general public yesterday was peaceful with people cheering them supportively yesterday.
The stop-over at the Art Gallery saw the six contestants introduced to the crowd along with their sponsors.
They shared their biography and interacted with people along with entertainments by 2016 Solo Icon winner, Small Jam and Panpipe group from Isabel province.

The Judges for the Miss Solomon Islands Pageant are; Dalcy Tekulu, President for Solomon Island Women in Business Association (SIWIBA) and Melanie, a private business woman.
The parade yesterday places judges with their first assignment – final one will be on Saturday during the crowning to find out who will represent Solomon Islands in Samoa for Miss Pacific.
Announcing the programmes coming up, the Director for Solomon Hosts and Coordinator for Miss Solomon Island Pageant, Ms Joyce Konofilia, said the contestants will go on their second block of activities leading up to the final day, tomorrow.

She said today they will go through speech presentation, and tomorrow, crowning along with Sarong, talent, traditional, and questions and answers session.
“These girls are going to speak on women equality, women in business, women against violence and all kinds of issues affecting women in the country,” Ms Konofilia said.
Along with that, Ms Konofilia acknowledges the sponsors and those involved through out to the float programme yesterday.
The platinum sponsor for Miss Solomon Islands Pageant 20116 is Coral Sea Resort and Casino, the Silver sponsor— Anolpha Enterprises Limited, Bronze sponsor —Pan Oceanic Bank, Szetu Breweries, King Solomon Hotel, Low Prices Enterprises and SINU.
