PM appalled.

..Claims MP attempts to pull down gov’t
PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare has expressed much discontent with the Member of Parliament (MP) for North West Guadalcanal.
Speaking during last week’s debate on anti-corruption strategy, Mr Sogavare lashed out at the MPs, singling out Northwest Guadalcanal MP Hon Bodo Dettke as ‘actively scam warning among members of the government bench together with some members of parliament to the extent of working on strategies to pull down the government’.
In his address, he said that the reasons for reservations by members of parliament became clearer during the debate and range from the belief that the anti-corruption framework was designed specifically to target those in parliament who are deemed as very corrupt by the people.
He said that he had no difficulty in believing the genuineness of the opposition group and their support, but was not quite sure about the position of other members.
“I have no difficulty believing the genuineness of the opposition group and therefore appropriate, I acknowledge the support rendered by them.
“I’m not so sure about the position of certain members of the independent group on this matter.
“I’m saying that because I heard three very powerful presentations only to learn later on that one of them was grossly tainted with by dishonesty and political ambitions,” he said.
Mr Sogavare said at first he was pleased to hear what he genuinely thought was a change of position.
However, he was later intrigued that the Northwest Guadalcanal MP had actively been working inconspicuously to topple the government, capitalising on members’ reservations on the strategy to address corruption.
He added having heard that twenty rooms were already booked in the Honiara Hotel for those who will deflect.
“I find it very disturbing and as a matter of fact, very difficult to understand when people can stand in parliament and lecture us on the principles of good governance and yet do the opposite.
“This is exactly what the national anti-corruption strategy is concerned about.”
In regards to this he also mentioned that this particular Member of Parliament was still trying to scare the most vulnerable members of the house through a text message which read “hem bae happen now ya”.
Mr Sogavare said that he appeals to people like him and people who continue to advance that kind of agenda to behave in a manner that is consistent with the good things they are saying about the framework.
“The principle of reciprocity he was on about and condemned in his speech was surely a play during that time.
“I will be surprised if this parliament will turn a blind eye on that development or is it the case that we become immune to it and accept it as normal?”
“If we continue to allow this kind of activity to go unpunished in our political system people who wilfully decide to corrupt members of parliament must not be allowed to do that with impunity,” he said
