Needle found in Mamei luncheon meat

AUTHORITIES are again under the spotlight as another scary discovery is made in a canned food item.
A family in Bugotu Isabel province found a needle in a tin of Mamei Luncheon meat on Tuesday.
The shocked family is calling on responsible authorities to carefully monitor imported goods.
Josie Gedi from Suva village in Isabel said they bought the luncheon meat from a canteen at the village and opened it to have it with their cooked rice but were shocked to find a needle inside the meat.
“It was really a bad experience,” Mr Gedi said.
He questioned the authorities whether canned food imported into the country is safe for human consumption because it is not the first time for people to found object inside imported tin food.
Mr Gedi said it is time we turned to eat our local food rather eating imported and processed food from the shops.
He said the public must be aware and careful when buying luncheon meat think first before you buy from shops or else buy our own taiyo much better than luncheon meat.
The same incident also occurred in Vella La Vella in 2015 where man found a syringe needle inside a canned luncheon meat and one incident in Honiara where a plaster is also found in a luncheon meat tin.
