Gizo dengue cases drop
THERE is a significant drop in the number of dengue cases in Gizo, after the recent scare of an outbreak since last year in the Western province.
Gizo hospital has recorded 82 cases recently but now the cases have been slowly decreased due to the movements of the people after the Christmas and New Year holiday.
Dr Dickson Boara said the medical teams and malaria division are continuing with their ultra-volume space (ULV) spraying in Gizo town and other areas within Western Province.
Dr Boara said “the medical team will soon complete the spraying to all the surrounding areas and we are confident to inform the general public that the dengue cases currently affecting the province are now decreases.”
Dr Boara urged general public to keep their surroundings clean and continue to organise clean-up activities to get rid of dengue mosquito’s breeding grounds, and not just wait for the local authority workers to do the job.
““We are encouraging everyone to using bed nets during the day and night to protect you from dengue mosquitoes.
“We will keep monitoring dengue cases recorded in Gizo town area and surrounding communities for further information and awareness program to combat the dengue mosquitoes,” said Boara.
He encourages residents living in surrounding islands in Ranonga, Simbo, Vella, Kolombangara, Vona Vona and Roviana Lagoon to protect their families from mosquito bites.
Boara thanked members of public for the cleanup campaign organised by health authorities in Gizo and other responsible offices and business houses to keep the environment clean.
As a result, Gizo town have slowly recovered from dengue.
He hopes that the same habit will continue to individual residences around Western Province.
Meanwhile, Dr Boara confirmed that Gizo hospital has not yet recorded any outbreak, encouraging everyone to take extra care for family members especially children from dengue mosquitoes.
