SINTA Credit Union Limited concluded its one-day Annual General Meeting with teachers in Solomon Islands at the St John School on Friday with ‘profitable discussions’.
Solomon Islands National Teachers Association (SINTA) managed to disseminate information to teachers with conclusions to establish a way forward despite lack of attendance by many.
Acting Manager for SINTA Credit Union Ltd, Mr Ken Gala’a said despite the low attendance of teachers from the provinces, AGM was approved by the Central Bank (CBSI) to proceed.
He said they have come up with ways forward as a result from teachers’ contribution and debate relating to issues the union needs to re-consider.
It is reported that only 25 percent of the expected attendance turned up, which poses another challenge for SINTA.
Despite this very low attendance, Mr Gala’a said that the quorum, which according to law requires a minimum of one-third, was accepted by the Central Bank of the Solomon Islands.
Meanwhile, Mr Gala’a said the outcome of the AGM is expected to put charity measures for making credit union stronger, and to be the best credit union in the whole Solomons especially for teachers.
The Vice President for SINTA Board of Directors, Mrs Mary Susurua appreciated the participation of teachers which was positive and was with rewarded conclusions.
She said despite disregard of SINTA’s status, teachers made their lobbying with strong intention to support the union go forward with its membership.
“This Union belongs to teachers in Solomon Islands, if it runs well it will enable support in terms of funds and develops teacher’s social welfare, I really support the union despite few teachers attended,” Mrs Susurua said.
SINTA was built under the theme: “Individual is one. Togetherness is an ocean stay focus-Be positive, we shall make the difference save for our future”.
