Warning on abandoning children in vehicle

A police officer has warned drivers and even parents not to leave their children in the vehicle while going out for shopping or doing other things.

The officer was commenting on an accident that occurred early yesterday morning where a double-cabin Hilux rolled into a roadside drain at Rove.

The officer said parents or drivers must not leave their little children alone in vehicles as sometimes little children are active and can accidently move the hand-break.

“It’s us adults to think and take precaution,” the officer said.

Eye witnesses said that the Hilux was parked in front of a Chinese shop and the children were left inside the vehicle while the mother was out in the shop.

“It was at that time the vehicle moved,” the eye-witness said.

The eye-witness suggests that it is probable that the children may have moved the hand brake gear by accident, causing the vehicle to move.
