Citizens question police non-intervention
COMMUNITY leaders of GBR Area in Henderson, east Honiara, have questioned police non-intervention in what they claim as ‘a pure criminal act’ by employees of Samlimsan Company.
The leaders relayed in an interview yesterday that Samlimsan Company entered the area by force with men armed with knives, bow and arrows to chase people out from the area without having to adhere to the initial conditions set when they had a dialogue with the company on February 20.
Chairman, Ataban Baki said the police which are entrusted by people in its primary role to protect lives and properties has also turned a blind eye on them.
“The police call on the community after the matter was reported, but still allow this ordinary people to carry law in their own hands.
“We view this as criminal act orchestrated by foreigners to threaten indigenous people of Solomon Islands.
“What is the police will do about such actions, we expect the police to intervene and solve this issue, this is not Melanesian culture,” they said.
More than 200 people that are affected as a result of the forced evacuation are currently pleading for justice, and for the government to seriously look deeper into the issue.
