Mbaranaba-Panatina Ridge opens new pathway
THE Panatina Ward in east Honiara received its 85-metre pathway from the Rapid Employment Project (REP) yesterday.
The pathway was handed over to Mbaranaba-Panatina Ridge by representative from REP along with Honiara City Clerk, witnessed by members of the community.
As guest of honour, the City Clerk Mr Charles Kelly said the fulfillment of the project marks a milestone to communities around Panatina ward which people will benefits from for generations to come.
He assured Mbaranaba community the project means a lot to them, and that HCC wishes to reach every community within Honiara but is impeded by funds.
Mr Kelly said the World Bank’s intervention through REP to engage communities within Honiara is a bonus which supports HCC achieve its goals and objectives.
“This is big things to Council because we are reaching to you and you reaching us, either walk to main road to catch transport and come to town, it connects you to us in Honiara city,” City Clerk Kelly said.
He asked the community to take ownership of the footpath and look after it so that people can enjoy services.
The Chief for Mbaranaba Community, Mr Austin Sau thanked the REP in collaboration with HCC for recognizing the community’s need in pedestrian support.
He appealed to pedestrians to use the new Jacob’s ladder properly by maintaining its cleanliness, “do not spit betal-nut stain, drawing and throwing of rubbish”.
Mr Sau said it is a milestone for the Mbaranaba-Panatina Ridge Community.
The REP Project Manager, Mr Salvador Jiao said Mbaranaba-Panatina Ridge is the 35th recipient of successful ladder projects.
He said apart from ladders, REP has already supported eight pedestrian bridges to other communities within Honiara which total up to 48 projects successfully implemented.
Mr Jiao assures community leaders REP is expecting 7 more projects for this year, and encourages them to launch their project application.
