THE Western Provincial Government has been commended for its plans to revitalize its five provincial substations across the province.

The Western Province Administration’s Extension office has completed its assessment at Seghe and Munda, and will travel to Korovou substation in the Shortland Islands on Monday, 16 December, before moving on to Kekoso on Vella La Vella and Koleuku in Ranonga.

A move, Principal Administration Officer, Gideon Tuke said is geared towards resurrecting dead government services in these provincial centers.

Members of the growing Gizo Facebook Group said this is one of the best decisions made by the local government.

“We have dead government substations in our province with very poor infrastructure, without proper office equipment, only receipt books can be seen on the desk,” a member wrote.

“Thumbs up to the provincial government and the officer in charge for putting this as a top priority.”

“This is one of the best decisions made by the government, it means creating effective governance. People nowadays don’t have any idea what their government are doing, this will improve linkages between people and their government, better coordination, reporting and monitoring. A good move by the premier,” a member voices out.

Another said: “Good move Premier and executive. This is one of the wisest undertakings a provincial government could ever take, as it promotes decentralization of development and encourages economic boom in the rural. From the time these sub-stations were dead to now, rural population they serve have doubled or tripled,”

Other suggests that it is right time the province should employ new graduates in the province.

A member said substations are part of how the province will generate its Micro Economic incentives through Agriculture and others. “We need financial resources and most of all Human Commitment, let us look forward for this,” he said.
