POLICE has commended the public for peaceful festive celebrations on Christmas and New Year.

Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast said though there were traffic related offences, no major incident occurred especially in Honiara and around the provinces.

He said in relation to traffic offences there were 108 arrests.

Police arrested 21 people for driving over the prescribed limit of alcohol, 31 arrests for driving unlicensed motor vehicle, 15 arrests for unlicensed drivers and 16 arrests on careless drivers.

Most of the cases have already appeared in court.

Meanwhile, on disorderly conduct from across the provinces and Honiara, there were 193 arrests.

But, all in all, police were pleased with the behaviour of the public and continue to call on the public to support police
