‘MPs to attend late Lady Selina Palmer’s funeral service’
YESTERDAY the Prime Minister moved a motion of special adjournment to Parliament reconvene on Monday March 6, 2017.
The motion of special adjournment was done without notice on the grounds of national urgency as it is required under Parliamentary Standing Orders that motions be given three clear days’ notice.
A motion without notice can also be done under Parliamentary Standing Orders and was the basis of the motion moved by Prime Minister Hon Manasseh Sogavare yesterday to have Members of Parliament (MPs) attend the funeral service of the late Lady Selina Palmer, wife of His Lordship Chief Justice Sir Albert Palmer today.
All MPs are expected to attend the funeral service today.
Leader of the Official Opposition and MP for Hograno/Kia/Havulei Hon Jeremiah Manele told Parliament yesterday when the Prime Minister moved the motion that his side of the Honourable House had no issues with the motion and supported it.
On behalf of the Independent Group, MP for Aoke/Langalanga, Hon Mathew Wale added that their side of the Honourable House also had no issues with the motion moved by the Prime Minister and urged that all MPs attend the funeral service in due respect.
The Speaker of Parliament Ajilon Nasiu granted the leave permitting all Members of Parliament to attend the funeral service today.
Parliament therefore, stands adjourned until Monday March 6, 2017.
