‘No place for plastics’ for Coral Triangle Day today
WORLD Wide Fund (WWF) Gizo Team are incorporating their coastal communities programme today at the MSG Building in Gizo Town to mark “Coral Triangle Day”.
With the ongoing theme of “No place for plastics”, the celebration aims to highlight the real threat of plastic waste polluting the oceans and causing critical conditions to the marine ecosystem life and livelihoods in the Coral Triangle region which includes the 6 member countries of the Initiative (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and Solomon Islands).
The celebration is also to include an overview from WWFSI’s primary programme called Sustainable Coastal Communities focusing on Community Based Fisheries Management and Ridges to Reef Conservation.
It is the same time of year again and the WWF Gizo team say that they would like to take this opportunity to invite the woman of Zone 3 from the GELCA Woman saving clubs to partake in the celebration and assist WWF’s Team and volunteers in the morning street cleanup in Gizo.
“We also want women to bring any products they would like to sell during today because WWF will have a designated market stall space at the MSG Building for any of them to sell their products and goods at,” said WWF Officers.
