MEMBERS of Constitutional Congress and Eminent Persons Advisory Council (EPAC) are currently having a pre-plenary session to finalise positions made on the 2nd 2014 Draft Fed-eral Constitution of Solomon Islands during the 2015 and 2016 awareness/consultations.

The pre-plenary session, which started on Monday February 20 and will end Friday March 31, 2017 is held at Mendana Hotel Conference Room.

The session involves members looking through the positions of the awareness/consultations held from May 2015 to June 2016, which were combined in a matrix form of document.

These positions on sections within the draft Federal Constitution have now been inserted into the draft document and will be revised by this pre-plenary session.

The document will be sent to the experts on federalism, governance and constitution-making to look through before they arrive early April 2017.

Other issues such as the Maritime Boundaries delimitation on the proposed State boundaries will also be discussed and finalized during this time.

The Constitutional Reform Unit is currently arranging logistics for this pre-plenary and joint plenary sessions to be held efficiently and without delay, as the final text of the proposed Federal Constitution should be handed over to the Prime Minister by June this year.

Constitutional Reform Unit (CRU) is a division established within the Prime Minister’s Office to oversee the completion of the Solomon Islands’ Constitutional Reform programme.
