DEPUTY Police Commissioner Mr Gabriel Manelusi highlights that the royal police of Solomon Islands is capable to take up from where RAMSI leaves in June.

He was speaking in a meeting organised by the ministry of national unity and served as an open discussion floor for stakeholders from varies communities in the capital to discuss and share ideas on issues regarding peace in the capital and possible ways to ensure how peace can be maintained.

In his closing remarks, he told stake holders that the RSIPF is now capable and ready to serve police duties.

He stated that training for this strategy began last year and is progressive on both national and provincial levels.

Mr Manelusi said that on a national level, there is a national crime prevention board and on a provincial level, a provincial crime prevention council.

The deputy commissioner mentioned that there was a 44 percent reduction of crime in the central island community.

He appealed to stake holders which included chiefs of respective communities, women representatives, youth leaders and those representing different organisations around the capital to collaborate with the police.

In regards to this, he added that if they have any questions they must report it to his office.

Mr Manelusi noted that people want peace and stressed how it is a universal aspect of life.

He said that everywhere you go people want peace, even when you are travelling everyone wants peace and it is important that individuals bear that in mind that their actions alone determine whether they are keeping the peace wherever they go.

The deputy commissioner also added that “we shouldn’t think of having peace to ourselves in a way that it disturbs others. In other words, we must be mindful that people around us want peace to and so, be aware of our actions”.

Moreover, the deputy commissioner noted that the local police force needs support from everyone and without this support, police work will be challenging.

He urged women, chiefs and leaders at the meeting to work together.
