A USD$1-million project will begin in August to pipe undersea water supply from Kolombangara to Gizo Town.

Western Province Deputy Premier Hon Maloney Lopoto says an ADB consultant will plan the project and make a BOQ so that they can supply water across from Kolombangara.

“So this is one of the good news for the province. Although to some of us it will only be a dream but for me at this point of time, that dream is behind me,” said Hon Lopoto.

“In relation to water progress, it has taken the committee here in Gizo for about two and a half years to make assessment reports, consultations and invite institutions that will take this province to the goal that it wants.

“The dream of having water to every household in Gizo is not going to be a dream but a reality.”

The Deputy Premier mentioned this new project when asked during the Full Assembly by the MPA for Ward 16, Hon Ramrakha Talasasa Jnr, on what the current progress was on the water supply development initiatives pursued by his Division.
