Media training for gov’t officials and NGOs
LEADERS, official and government and non-government organisations have undergone special training on how to improve communication with the main stream media in the country.
Permanent secretaries of government ministries, country managers of non-government organisations took time to discuss possible strategies to communicate with existing media organisations in the country.
The three-day training, which carries a theme “Leadership and Media”, was made possible through a new partnership between Australian High Commission here in Honiara, Solomon Islands Government and Media Association of Solomon Islands.
The objective of the training is to establish effective partnership with the media for effective communications.
Some of the agendas discussed during the training is to establish a press club where government ministries and NGOs can allocate time to hold press conference with the media.
Well-experienced Journalist from Australian, Ms Sue Ahearn took the time to facilitate the training.
Ms Ahearn has been working with Solomon Islands in 2004 – 2005 and she is well versed with the challenges faced by journalist in Solomon Islands.
In his speech during the MASI World Media Freedom Day reception last month, Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands His Excellency Roderick Brazier said the Australian High Commission is proud to support media training for Solomon Islands elected leaders, officials and government communications units as well as representatives from non-government organisations.
Mr Brazier said the training will be very important to help people get well place information about what the government and NGOs have been doing in terms of development plans and achievements.
