No PS due for redundancy or retirement

Minister of Public Service and MP for North New Georgia, Hon John Dean Kuku.
THE Minister of Public Service, Hon John Dean Kuku has confirmed that no Ministerial Permanent Secretaries (PSs) are due for redundancy or retirement.
The Minister confirmed this on the floor of Parliament last week in response to the supplementary question raised by the Member of Parliament for East Central Guadalcanal, Hon Ishmael Avui.
Hon Ishmael Avui’s initial query was on the status of the Performance Management Framework implemented in 2014 which initially commenced with Permanent Secretaries signing annual performance agreements with the Public Service Commission (PSC).
Hon Avui questioned if the same agreement will be signed by Under Secretaries and Directors and other officers and if any PS based on the assessment is due for retirement or redundancy.
Minister of Public Service Hon John Dean Kuku confirmed to Parliament in response to Hon Avui’s query that the Performance Management Framework has been implemented and all PSs have undergone the assessment conducted by the PSC.
“These assessments were completed by the 30th of June this year,” Hon Kuku said.
The Minister added that Under Secretaries, Directors and other officers were not given these agreements to sign.
“This is a strategic intention and choice as there are fundamental issues in Human Resource Management that we need to consider before we go into having them sign if need be,” added the Minister.
Hon Kuku then confidently told Parliament that no PSs are due to be made redundant or to retire.
Member of Parliament for Aoke Langalanga, Hon Mathew Wale added as an additional comment to issue that one of the struggles of the Government is the pivot of the political government and the administrative government (Public Service).
The link between the two, Hon Wale added, is the Permanent Secretaries as it is there that the policies of the Government can be driven toward implementation.
Wale told Parliament that this Performance Management Framework is highly crucial and that it should be tied directly to Government policies.
