Man remanded for sexually assaulting daughter
THE Prosecution has remanded a man charged with one count of rape and one count indecent assault yesterday.
Public Prosecutor John Zoze made the application to remand the accused in the Honiara Magistrate Court before Magistrate Esther Lelapitu.
The Prosecution remanded the accused on the grounds that the offence is serious and the fact that the victim is also the daughter of the accused.
Therefore, if the accused is bailed there is likely the chance that he will abscond and interfere with prosecution witnesses.
He is remanded until January 10, 2017.
Police alleged that the incident occurred at night on November 20 in Honiara.
The case was reported to the Police in which an investigation was conducted, from which he was later arrested on December 24.
The allegation said that the daughter was sleeping in her grandmother’s room when the father got inside the room and assaulted her.
He is yet to secure any legal representation to assist him with his charges.
John Zoze of the office of the Director Public Prosecution represents the crown on the case.
