Local raise concern on MPs’ entitlements
NUMBER of locals in Honiara are in serious debate over the tax free issue and they are urging government to consider citizens in its ruling.
Many locals in Honiara expressed their concern highlighting “is government still setting its approach for its people, and by the people or for themselves?”
Their spokesman Mr Robert Mani Maemae said he come out to speak freely for the public, as it is evident in headlines government ruling turn-out to be negative in the past months—people talk about it everywhere in the street.
He said public is still being negatively impacted on by the decision to have MPs freed from tax.
Spokesman Mani said their main concern is about tax free, increases of allowances, as well as other government opportunities – all of which he claims reflect that the government is not for the people.
“Is this government go for themselves, is government for people by people or for their own pocket, It’s time to stop playing politics but starts building Solomon Islands.
“I come today with views from public that they are not happy, low earners pay tax but what about hierarchy people—big man in Parliament, it is not my though it’s from the public,” Mr Mani said.
With that they want the government to look at improving social and economic development of Solomon Islands.
“Government should start thinking working of people, provides or create opportunities for people in the streets,” Mr Mani said.
Mr Mani owns a business called RM Business Consultancy Service.
He had also participated in the national election in 2014, contesting for the Fataleka seat.
