Kongu village celebrate Christmas in style

THE late Aroni Kumana’s family presented a warm and welcoming festive opening ceremony on Christmas at Kongu Village in Ranoga Island, Western Province.
Late Aroni Kumana’s family hosted Christmas and New Year celebrations starting on Dec 16 and will conclude on January 7, with the theme “I, You, We and they must born to create good things”.
Hundreds gathered at Kongu Village to witness the official opening ceremony on Monday.
The official opening was led by Aroni’s family after late Nego’s family handed over the right to host this year’s Christmas and New Year celebration programme.
Rev G Lapo gave the welcome speech with a word of prayer. He dedicated the Christmas and New Year programme followed by other speeches during the official and dedication.
During the opening ceremony at Kongu village, Aroni Kumana’s family members together with the community honoured their hero late Aroni Kumana, who helped rescue young naval officer John F Kennedy from Japan capture in 1943.
The US Navy officially recognised its debt to the Solomon Islander, who for years was believed dead.
Kumana’s family showed respect to their father, uncle, grandfather and son as they march through the field with Kumana’s framed photo, John F Kennedy photo, and the American flag to show their respect as their hero in the village and their country.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Raymond Sore said “today marks another milestone for Aroni Kumana’s family in hosting this Christmas and New Celebration here in the village and we need your working together in this community as we celebrate together this Christmas and New Year programme.
Sore said more activities will be played during this Christmas programme like treasure hunting, coconut husking, stick rubbing, waving and copra sack.
“We thanked the members of the community for support and working together as one people to celebrate this Christmas celebration here at Kongu Village’.
“We need your cooperation and let us all celebrate this Christmas festive session peacefully”, he added.
“On behalf of the late Aroni Kumana’s family we welcome you all in this year celebration as we respect our hero of this village with his gift and his past present from Captain Ed Rhoades American flag to show our happy of our beloved hero”, said Sore his son.
The next host for 2017 will be Tekulu’s family for 2017 Christmas programme.
