Huge potential for cocoa industry

THE future forecast of our local cocoa industry holds huge potential according to General Mananger of OUTSPAN Ltd, Mr Tarun Suvarna.

In an interview with this paper, Mr Suvarna said the country has good soil that can grow cocoa and is located in the belt that is preferable to cocoa plant.

But, he said, more work is needed and this includes; more awareness, ongoing training and access to the international market.

Mr Suvarna adds that collective support from stakeholders, farmers, landowners, buyers and the government is paramount in this approach.

“You have good soil to grow cocoa but you need more work to do to get to the point. Such undertakings will take years and with commitment your country can executive the goals,” he said.

Mr Survana stressed that the local industry can be a major driver of the economy if there is more support from all sectors.
