Gizo residents call for removal of slack public servants

CONCERNED Gizo people are calling on the Western province’s director for the town’s council to discipline officers who are not doing their jobs.

They claim that this lack of duty execution is why Gizo town has not improved for years.

An example is seen in the Gizo market, they said.

“The town market is currently not properly organised, overcrowding and unplanned; therefore we are questioning the Gizo town Clark and his market fee collectors for not improving the market.

“Who are the fee collectors who always collect five $5 dollars fees each day in our table?

They collect huge amount of money from each venders who comes from Vella, Ranonga, Simbo, Kolombangara, Vona Vona, Gizo town residence and venders from West Gizo.

“We are questioning the Town Clerk and the Western Provincial government on how they manage and working together to improve the standard of market in Gizo.

“We all aware and understands that the Government of Australia has confirmed its commitment towards funding and construction of a new market house for Gizo town.

“We remembered when Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare announced the new funding engagement in Gizo during the 33rd Second Appointed Day anniversary last year at the JFK Stadium in Gizo.

“What are the objectives and target areas on how do we intend to deliver, our methodologies, management and implementation, monitoring and evaluation in our market. “We always asked the same question of what sort of governance structures do Gizo needs to be instituted to ensure transparency and accountability in the provincial level?”

Attempts to get comments from the Gizo town clerk yesterday were unsuccessful.
