Christmas sea festival held at Gizo

AS Christmas celebrations were held in most communities around the country, Vorivori village on West Gizo hosted a sea festival to coincide with the annual celebrations.
The Vorivori South Sea Evangelical Church (SSEC) hosted the sea festival activities like swimming, diving, canoe race, fishing competition and other sea games played yesterday at the village.
The day four of activities was highlighted with sea games and tug of war as everyone took part during the program.
Theme for this year Christmas celebration is ‘Christmas against Crime festival’.
This is the 6th annual Christmas celebration programme hosted at Vorivori village since 2011 with the same theme.
Speaking to Island Sun, chairman of the Vorivori SSEC Christmas organizing committee Pr Frazer Nuapitu said the small community living at Vorivori village have enjoyed their Christmas celebration after the official opening of the programme on Saturday.
Nuapitu said on Sunday, the group hosted bible activities, Christmas gift presentation and traditional bushel competition organized at their community as children, men, young youths and old attended the programme.
He said the aim of this Christmas celebration is to keep engage our young people from criminal activities and engage them with activities and sports in our village.
“This year we marked another milestone here in our community as we celebrate the Christmas festive season”.
“We thanked all our participants who attended the sea festival activities and other games as well. He said the reasons why they hosted this event is to engage all our young people in our village.
“We call on all our youth members to behave and respect this Christmas celebration, therefore let all celebrate this festive season in a meaningful way”, said Nuapitu.
He said the Christmas and New Year programme will conclude with prize presentation, Island dance and feasting next week.
Meanwhile, he encourages other visitors to come and participate and celebrate together this year’s Christmas celebration at Vorivori Village on West Gizo.
