Cassava export a great success: Longamei

THE Managing Director of Varivao Company Ltd has described its first export on frosted and grated cassava as a great success.

Varivao Company Limited broke through the export market last year to export yellow cassava overseas.

Mr Duddley Longamei said Varivao has exported two containers of yellow and mixed varieties of Cassava to Melbourne, Australia last year.

He said the first container arrived in Melbourne in the last week of November while the second container arrived in December last year.

Mr Longamei said the demand for the local yellow and white cassava is very high and that the two containers which Varivao exported last year have been sold out.

“According to information we receive from our buyers, our local cassava varieties have high demand in Australia.

“This is a good news for us and local farmers in the country,” he said.

Mr Longamei said other buyers have shown interests to buy our local cassava and that Varivao is expecting an expansion of its market to other states in Australia.

He said employees of Varivao are currently on holiday and will resume its operation next week to continue with its Cassava export programme.

Mr Longamei said the task ahead will be tough but Varivao is confident to fully executive the opportunity in the Cassava Export.

Locally owned Varivao Holding Limited has been selected as the centre point of newly established export of Cassava chain here in the country last year.

The new but very important undertaking was made possible through the help of European Union and Secretariat of Pacific Community providing Varivao Holding with necessary and relevant equipment to execute the task.
