FOUR days of disaster management plan consultation training begins at the women’s centre conference room in Auki yesterday.
The training includes heads of departments from the various ministries and NGOs in Malaita and is facilitated by the National Disaster Management office (NDMO).
NDMO programme officer Brian Tom revealed that this plan provides for the establishment of institutional arrangement for the Solomon Islands government (SIG) to address the management of disaster within the country.
He said it includes the elements of preparedness and early warning, response and recovery.
Arrangements are addressed at the national, provincial and local levels.
Tom said this plan updates and replaces the National Disaster Risk Management (N-DRM) plan 2010 parts one to four and changes its focus.
The N-DRM plan 2010 was comprehensive in providing both for the management of disasters and the management of disaster and climate risk.
He added, it aligned with the Pacific Disaster Risk Reduction and disaster management framework for action 2005-2015 which succeeds the (RFA) of the time.
The Solomon Islands government (SIG) is addressing the institutional structures for the management of disaster and climate risk in line with the regional frame work for resilient development in the pacific (FRDP) 2017 -2030 which succeeds the RFA and the association Pacific islands frame work for action on climate change 2006-2015 (PIFACC).
The training ends on Thursday this week.
The training is funded by DFAT and implemented by OXFAM.
