Mala and Temotu premiers urged to be responsible for their people

PREMIERS of Malaita and Guadalcanal have been urged to be responsible for their people.

People from these provinces have deliberately been hired by Samlimsan Logging Company to forcefully threaten people from Guadalcanal and other provinces residing at a land in Henderson, east Honiara to evacuate the area, it is reported.

The notorious logging company was responsible for destroying hundreds of homes at the area, without proper adherence to resolutions passed in a meeting with leaders of the area.

GBR Community leaders Ataban Baki and Steven Alick raised this in an interview yesterday.

“These leaders must seriously consider this, and be responsible for their people because they are the people that heavily used by the foreigner to threaten, mostly people from Guadalcanal living here.

“This is not good when the country has gone past the civil unrest and the post peace and reconciliation process.

“The people from these two provinces are going around here with the weapons, harassing people from Guadalcanal here to evacuate this land,” they echoed.

They said the people from Malaita and Temotu have been threatening the people with knives, pinch bars, and bows and arrows.

They said thugs employed by Samlimsan Company from these provinces have also resorted to stealing valuable belongings of people residing at the area such as solar panels.

They have called on these leaders to seriously look at this issue and address it at the earliest.
