East Guale opens new bridge

PS for MID and MP for East Guadalcanal Constituency Bradley Tovosia cuts the ribbon to officially open the bridge while MP for East Central Guadalcanal looks on.

EAST Guadalcanal Constituency has achieved another milestone with the opening of the Hunivatu Bridge last Friday.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Member of Parliament (MP) for East Guadalcanal and MP for East Central Guadalcanal were at the site to witness the official opening of the bridge.

The bridge was built by people from the constituency spearheaded by their MP, Bradley Tovosia through funds from the Solomon Islands Government.

The reconstruction of the Hunivatu Bridge is part of the current road upgrade and maintenance which has started at Makaruka and has nearly reached the Manikaraku substation in Marau.

Last week a grader, a loader and roller were transported to the constituency to do final touches on road work.

Mr Tovosia earlier told this paper that shipping has been a continuous hiccup faced by majority of people in the constituency, especially to those living along the weather coast.

“Rough seas resulting from unpredictable bad weather pattern has always been a difficulty. “The intention is so people can drop off at Marau and get a truck home,” he said.

The Hunivatu Bridge was destroyed during the past ethnic crises.
