Voruvoru community urged to look after FAD

VORUVORU and its surrounding communities at Northwest Choiseul are urged to look after their project of the Fish Aggregated Device (FAD) put on last year some Kilometres north of Voruvoru Catholic Mission Station.

This is according to the fisheries officer Thompson Miabule who went from the Taro Choiseul Provincial Headquarter to check the FAD they put on.

A three-man team under the Choiseul Climate Change and Adaptation Program (CHICCHAP) under the leadership of Mr Thompson said that the FAD is used to attract fish to the aggregated device so that local fisherman can catch a good catch from time to time and sometimes seasonal.

According to Nerio Ulemiki the media coordinator for Christ the King Parish at Voruvoru Northwest Choiseul, the climate change team tied a raft to the FAD to mark where it is located in order to attract a lot of fish to come to it.

The FAD project is funded under the climate change program for Choiseul Province.

This project is one of the series of six projects for six communities around Choiseul Province.

Mr Thompson said that this is their last tour for this year.

Next year the program will be reviewed and as soon as funds arrive, they will implement some more FADS for other communities who have shown their interests.
