Sri-Lankans mark 69th Independence Anniversary in the country

SRI-LANKANS in the country organised an event to join other Sri-Lankans around the world especially in Sri-Lanka to celebrate their country’s sixty-ninth Independence Anniversary.

The occasion was held over the weekend at the Don Bosco technical school, attended by Sri-Lankans in the country.

In a message from Dr Kutila Pinto, Hon Consul to Solomon Islands, he said on Sri-Lanka’s 69th Independence Anniversary, he extends warm greetings to all Sri-Lankans and persons of Sri-Lankan origin who live and work in Solomon Islands.

“Our nation’s journey since the 4th of February 1949 has been mixed with achievements that we can be proud of, as well as challenges fraught with pain and anguish.

“I as the Hon Consul extend my request to all Sri-Lankan present and past living and working in Solomon Islands to show unity, togetherness and respect to each other.

“This is by holding hands as one team and one nation to deliver the best way of skills, knowledge and best practices to all people of Solomon Islands.

“To truly demonstrate the rich and prosperous history of Sri-Lanka and the proud wealth of knowledge and perseverance we have always been famous for,” he said.

Dr Pinto urged the Sri-Lankans living in Solomon Islands to carry the values of their nation as a vested duty to showcase only the best of what Sri-Lanka offers Solomon Islands.

“We are here building capacity, knowledge and the overall development of Solomon Islands.

“At all time we need to live to the best of our ability and refrain from any activity that will bring dispute to our own people or to our mother nation.

“Let’s use today as the day we celebrate our independence to resent any differences we had, get united and be united, live in peace and celebrate all our achievement as one.
