Selwyn College to celebrate landmark event in June
ANGLICAN Church of Melanesia owned Selwyn College will celebrate 46 years of education with a focus on 25 years at its Maravovo site, prelude to 50 years anniversary in 2020.
Chairman of the Organsing Committee Robert Iroga said the occasion is a momentous opportunity for the former students to celebrate an institution that has contributed so much to their professional development.
He said former students of Selwyn College commonly known as SOSA (Selwyn Old Scholars Association) have been looking forward to the occasions since it was mooted early this year.
According to Iroga, the celebrations will start with a prayer at Selwyn College on 11th June to be followed by a-four-day celebrations, starting on 20th June with a proposed march from Town Ground to Lawson Tama.
He said his committee had agreed in its meeting over the weekend for SOSA members to march in their famous four divisions of Noabu, Kirio, Tahula and Masi.
He said former Selwyn College students would be given the opportunity to speak during the night activities from June 20 to June 23 at the St Barnabas grounds.
The closing ceremony will take place on the 23rd with offerings/donations from the former students in their years starting from 1970 until those who left school last year.
Mr Iroga appeals to SOSA members to prepare and organize themselves for the celebrations. He said soon they’ll be naming leaders for the divisions to mobilise their members, however, he adds that it has been pleasing to see SOSA members already preparing in their classes for the June celebrations.
Last week SOSA members in Isabel formed SOSA Buala, SOSA Auki is next and SOSA Lata and SOSA Kirakira will be also be established in the coming weeks.
