RSIPF Police Commissioner to Indonesia for conference

POLICE Commissioner Mathew Varley and his Deputy Gabriel Manelusi will be in Indonesia next week for the 7th Melanesian Spearhead Group countries Police Commissioners conference.

Commissioner Varley said as a new police commissioner for Solomon Islands he is looking forward to meet with other Commissioners of MSG countries to discuss regional policing issues.

Commissioner Varley said it is a two day conference in which the Police Commissioners conference will be on the first day followed by the Police Ministers conference on the second day.

Those two meetings will be chaired by Solomon Islands.

Mr Varley said he will be providing an update to his MSG colleagues on the preparation for the RAMSI withdrawal here in the Solomon Islands.

“So I will be providing a briefing on the Rearmament program and our work so far to equip RSIPF to be ready for the full take-over of responsibility for policing here in the SI in June,” Mr Varley said.

He said main discussion of the conference will be around analyzing the regional security issues and looking at how Commissioners can contribute to the ongoing peace keeping operations around the world through United Nations.

There is a number of important initiatives on the agenda but said he will further update on the issues on his return next week.

Mr Varley and his deputy will be part of the Solomon Islands delegation to Indonesia with the Supervising Minister of Police and the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police.

Both meetings will be chaired by Solomon Islands.
