THE United Nations Office in Solomon Islands encourages more women in leadership.
In a National Youth Forum held this week, the Head of the United Nation Joint Presence in Solomon Islands, Ms Azusa Kubota, pursued the need for youth and young women to become leaders across sectors in the country.
The statement was made for youths and young women leaders from youth sectors across the province who attended the National Youth Forum for reviewing the National Youth Policy which expired last year.
Ms Kubota said historically the evidence has proved that when women are in leadership position resources are better shared, and resources used accountably which leads to better results.
“We need women leaders and invest in you to develop analytical skills, resolve complex issue and stand for your rights and vision and to lead efforts at community, sub-national and national level,” Ms Kubota said.
Ms Kubota urged participant, saying as future leaders they need to think carefully in whatever they can do as citizens of Solomon Islands.
She said the UN Office in Solomon Islands has done consultations with key stakeholders in identifying what they can do with the national efforts.
Through such consultations, Ms Kubota said they have identified civil engagement as priority targeting particularly youth and women.
