Man yet to obtain defence lawyer
A man who is facing a number of charges including allegedly disobeying, resisting arrest and escaping police custody is yet to get a lawyer to represent him.
Allen Seleau told the Magistrates yesterday he made requests on previous occasion but there has not been any response from the Public Solicitor’s office.
Seleau is facing charges in relation to an incident earlier this year.
He faces one count each of drunk and disorderly, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, damaging property and escaping lawful custody.
Police Prosecutor Ethel Maeue told the court that investigation on the case had been completed but since the accused is yet to have a legal representative, disclosures regarding the charges are yet to be provided.
Principal Magistrate Tearo Beneteti adjourned the case to February 13 to allow the accused secure legal representation.
Magistrate Beneteti said he hoped the PSO would respond to the request for legal representation in the allocation of lawyers within the 14 day adjournment.
