Japanese volunteers farewell SI after 2-year service

The four Japanese volunteers who will leave soon after their services in the country
FOUR Japanese volunteers will say their farewells after servicing the country for two years.
The volunteers had served in various sectors and in various provinces.
In an interview yesterday, the only male volunteer Mr Yusuke Nishiyama expressed the pleasures he experienced in almost two years he’d been in the country.
Mr Nishiyama was a science teacher at Arnon Atomea CHS in Malu’u North Malaita, where he teaches forms one to six.
He said in his science experiments he used local materials along with the limited lab apparatuses.
During his time at Arnon CHS, he also engaged in forming social soccer clubs for students, introduced piano (music) playing to students and softball.
Ms Misato Amano worked with the Malaria Division at the Honiara City Council.
She said during her one and eight months with HCC, she assisted them by providing awareness on malaria prevention to communities in Honiara.
“I also work with the office management helping them in decision making and assisted the Malaria Case Management Register, (MCMR) on report and data entry.
“I was also on programme involvement where we responsible of distributions of bed nets, indoor residual spray (IRS) and Active Case Detactive (ACD).” She said.
Ms Tomomi Kimura worked as speech therapist at the National Referral Hospital.

She said during her two-year assignment she helped patients at NRH and the Red Cross Development Centre especially children with speech therapist.
Ms Kimura also provided family education on speech impairment and swallowing difficulty as well as supporting Community Base Rehabilitation field officers through community visits and in-service training.
She also held workshops on speech impairment and swallowing difficulty at communities in Ulawa, Kirakira Hospital and Gizo Hospital.
Ms Yuriko Mizobuchi worked with the Nutrition and Food Security Unit under the Ministry of Health and Medical Service (MHMS).
During her time with MHMS she provided cooking training and nutrition education including nutrition workshops and cooking.
She also provided school health activities for students that include advanced learning competition and others.
The volunteers programme comes under the partnership between SIG and JICA especially on improving the socioeconomic development in the country.
