Is Trevor Garland using the 10-bed arrangement in Sydney for sexually abusing young Solomon Islands’ boys?

TREVOR Garland, the man entrusted by the Solomon Islands Government in overseeing the 10-bed arrangement with Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital, is back in the news – for the wrong reasons.

He is being accused of allegedly using the programme for his sexual gratification, documents obtained by Island Sun have revealed.

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is fully aware of what is going on, particularly with the most recent case, the documents show.

According to the latest allegations, Garland threatened to cut off any young men from Solomon Islands from the programme unless they did as he said.

Take for example one young man who was sent on the programme for an operation earlier this year. Mr Garland’s alleged behaviour towards him forced him to escape to Honiara without the operation, according to the documents.

The young male patient gave a graphic description of what awaited him when he set first foot on Trevor Garland’s residence, the man who used to be Solomon Islands’ honorary consul in Sydney.

“That [first] night he climbed into bed and slept with me. He hugged me,” the young patient said.

“The next afternoon he asked me to have some drinks with him in the backyard and bathe with him naked under the outdoor tap behind the garage. I did so and he masturbated me and had me do the same to him. This happened three times while I was with him,” according to the revelation.

“He (Trevor Garland) also asked me to watch gay pornography with him on the video, about three times. He was naked and pulled down my pants. He gave me a liquid to sniff which he said would make me horny. We sniffed the medicine. He asked me to follow the actions on the gay porn. I feel I did not have any choice as I was under his power,” the document obtained by Island Sun said.

“When a woman came to visit he moved me to his bedroom to share his bed. I did not want to sleep with him so I moved out to the couch.”

“When I did not cooperate, he began to shout at me and threaten to take me out of the programme unless I did what he wanted. When I stayed late at my relatives over Easter, he swore at me and my family.

“I was afraid he would become physically violent. He often threatened to remove me from the programme unless I did what he asked. He was not happy when I phoned or texted anyone. He acted jealous,” the young male patient said.

Friends later told him that Garland was “a rubbish man” that he had done this to many boys in the past.

With the help of the National Referral Hospital and other friends, the young patient whose identity would remain anonymous escaped to Honiara via Brisbane without his operation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade confirmed yesterday Garland’s position as Solomon Islands’ honorary consul in Sydney was terminated about three years ago.

Garland could not be contacted for comments yesterday.
