Constituencies told to bring own furniture to new MRD offices
CONSTITUENCIES have been told to bring their own furniture to the refurbished motel at Ranadi, the new home of the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD).
This was conveyed to Constituency Development Officers (CDOs) last week.
According to one the motel configuration of each room remains largely unchanged and that each Constituency has been asked to bring their own furniture for their Constituency offices.
“You might as well bring your mattress to sleep on in there. It’s not like an office at all. Furthermore its isolation from other government offices makes it so difficult for us having to travel each day to Ranadi,” the CDO said.
The Government is renting the refurbished hotel for $245,000 a month – $113,000 more expensive than the previous office buildings owned by the Solomon Islands National Provident Fund (SINPF) opposite the Town Ground Plaza.
Unconfirmed reports say the deal for the lease of the refurbished motel was said to have been put together by a former Member of Parliament, who has an interest in buying off the Ranadi property.
The Ranadi motel is owned by a Chinese hardware proprietor.
