PIDF Conference unlikely Due to No Funds

PACIFIC Islands Development Forum planned establishment of a National Sustainable Development Board (NSDB) for Solomon Islands and hosting of a Leaders Summit next month in August is highly unlikely due to the current economic pressures experienced by the Solomon Islands government.

Prime Minister, Hon. Manasseh Sogavare who is also current chair of PIDF in his meeting with PIDF Secretary General, François Marte earlier this year in Suva had assured the Solomon Islands Government’s commitment towards ensuring the financial support of a PIDF Leaders Summit and Conference in Honiara .

However the plan is highly unlikely as SIG was to have expended around seven million but an Internal review by Ministry Of Finance has  recommended for a  revised costing to a reduced amount as the  budget proposal lacked mention of the DCCG policy direction and a cost/benefit analysis for the people of Solomon Islands.

These consultations are planned to enhance member countries awareness of PIDF goals particularly the urgency to institute national/local actions through these NSDBs.

The Conference now in question planned for next month in Honiara is to include the first Members Representative Council meeting and the 2017 Leaders’ Summit.
