MPS eat $11.4M

38 MPs share $11.4 million in ‘discretionary’ funding in January and February this year
IT has been revealed that 38 Members of Parliament have shared $11.4 million amongst themselves between January 20 and February 7 this year.
Island Sun has obtained a copy of the details of the payments, described by Treasury insiders as “discretionary” funds for Members of Parliament.
The revelation comes amid reports that an underground movement is gaining momentum in planning either political assassinations or a coup against the government for allowing corruption to run rampant in the public sector today.
“Something big is going to happen very soon.
“People are fed up with the government leadership and Parliament as a whole. This underground movement, led by some highly educated Solomon Islanders, is seriously look at two things – political assassinations of Members of Parliament or a coup. It will happen soon,” well-placed sources have confirmed.
Meanwhile the document obtained by Island Sun shows, 38 MPs received $300,000 each in “discretionary” funds between January 20 and February 7, 2016.
Twelve MPs remained unpaid as of yesterday.
Among the MPs that have received payments are the Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, Opposition Leader Jeremiah Manele and Independent Group Leader, Dr Derek Sikua.
“No, no, no. These payments are separate from the Constituency Scholarship Fund, which Treasury is paying out this week. These are discretionary funds for Members of Parliament,” an insider told Island Sun yesterday.
“Treasury does not even know the source of the fund.”
According to the record of payments, seven MPs received their payments through their ANZ Accounts on January 20.
Other January payments are:
23rd January 3 (three)
24th January 8 (eight)
25th January 5 (five)
26th January 2 (two)
30th January 4 (four)
31st January 2 (two)
Seven payments were made in February.
There was one payment on February 2 and six payments on February 7, 2017.
