Ministry of Lands leads the way in Public Service Reforms

MLHS HR Manager Paurina Akwai traning officers to use Aurion software
THE Ministry of Lands, Housing & Survey (MLHS) is leading the way in implementing new procedures being rolled out by the Ministry of Public Service (MPS) through the support of the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT).
The Ministry of Lands is the only Ministry so far to have commenced implementing two particular MPS reforms – the Performance Management System and leave applications through the Aurion payroll software.
The current Performance Management System was introduced in 2015 and involves annual performance reviews, which then determine whether each officer deserves a salary increment or promotion, and if they need further training opportunities in order to improve their performance. The Ministry of Lands has now completed two full annual cycles, and performing officers have been subsequently rewarded.
The Aurion software allows officers to apply online for their leave, which is an improvement on the old paper system as it streamlines the process and does not require officers to physically go around obtaining signatures to have leave approved.
It also eliminates paperwork and inaccuracies in having leave recorded. Five Ministries are being piloted for this computerised leave application process, and Ministry of Lands is the first to be training its officers in using the software, with other Ministries expected to follow under the guidance of the Ministry of Public Service.
