Illegal logging rife in East Central Guale

Illegal logging activities in east central Guadalcanal have been reported as rife and uncontrollable.

This is in relation to SINO Capital logging Company which has been operating within the Kolokarako and Aola ward since 2010.

A land owner, Mr Limani Vele told this paper yesterday that SINO Capital logging Company has been operating without proper timber rights acquisition process under the Forestry and Timber Rights Utilisation Act.

“Many of the land owning groups have never been consulted; there has never been any hearing on several blocks of land that the company has already logged.

“No notice issued to land owners, and to make it worse different people are giving consent of land they are not rightfully own.

“Our people have been suffering on their own land due to the tribal disputes, land disputes and the company didn’t even pay royalties,” Mr Vele said.

He claimed the Asian logging company with its Asian Manager didn’t want to work together with land owners.

Mr Vele urged the government to kick the Asian logging company out from the country.

“It seems as the government didn’t care for its people as they are the owners of the resources that draws revenue for the country.”

Mr Vele wants the Police Commissioner to look very seriously on this company manager and his illegal company.

“Since 2010 when the company operated in the area, three people have already lost their lives. Please don’t keep such people in our country,” he pleads.
