THE Education and Human Resources Training Committee successfully conducted its 2nd last Inquiry on the Training of Medical Practitioners for Solomon Islands at the Atoifi Adventist Hospital on Monday.

Upon their arrival, the committee was received and greeted with a prestige traditional welcome, organised by the Faculty and the surrounding communities.

The committee members then took time to visit some of the hospital’s major wards including the hospital kitchen and laundry department.

They also had the chance as part of the inquiry to visit the school of Nursing campus to have a glimpse on the trainee nurses classrooms, Library and computer lab.

This gave the opportunity for the Education and Human Resources Training Committee to see for themselves the types of medical apparatus or equipment used and the types of training trainee nurses at Atoifi campus acquire.

During the Inquiry, the Committee had sessions with the Hospital Administration and the Staff and students of the Pacific Adventist University School of Nursing, Atoifi Campus, to establish the types and relevance of training, standards of certification and award of qualification for our nurses trained at this Institution.

The Committee also further pursue information on issues generally relating to the necessary support needed to provide a conducive learning environment for human resources training.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Rowena Asugeni and Chief Medical Officer, Dr Jason Diau commended the visit and stated that it was history in the making, that Parliament took the initiative to visit their campus.

The Committee also heard of the challenges and registered its intention to discuss matters with relevant ministries and authorities when it tables its report after completing all the inquiries with other stakeholders.

It is understood the Committee’s main objective is to examine the types and relevancy of trainings that our trainee medical doctors, nurses, dentist and other health care practitioners have received and are receiving.

The submissions and information gathered since conducting their first inquiry will be compiled and put together in a report that will be presented to Parliament.

Members presented during this Atoifi inquiry include the Chairman, Hon Nestor Giro (MP, Central Makira), Hon Dr Derek Sikua (MP, North East Guadalcanal), Hon Dickson Mua Panakitasi (MP, Savo/Russell), Marson Lilopeza (Director Committees) and Jasmine Waleafea (Committee Secretary).

Other supporting secretariat to the team include; Wilson Orisi, Whitmon Tabiru, Philemon Loe, Allen Richard and Hazel Fafale.

The Committee will conclude its Inquiry with Helena Goldie Nursing College, in Munda soon.
