THE Honiara public was shocked following the discovery of the body of a man floating in the Mataniko River yesterday afternoon.

Hundreds of people lined the banks of the river following the discovery of the body around 3pm, the body was floating close to the bank of the Mataniko Clinic when it was sighted by a bypasser.

Police media confirmed to Island Sun that the lifeless body was discovered by a bypasser around 3pm.

Following the discovery, police were alerted and took the body to the hospital morgue for post mortem.

The police states that the cause of death is still unknown at the moment as police will be conducting investigations into the case.

They said as investigations are being carried out no information is expected to be released but they will get back as soon as investigations gather information into the case.
