Avui commends Government support to his constituency

‘suggests better feeder roads and infrastructure’

MEMBER of Parliament for East Central Guadalcanal Hon Ishmael Avui, has commended and at the same time raised concerns over services and developments in his constituency.

The MP made the statement in his statement on the Sine Die motion moved by Prime Minister Hon Manasseh Sogavare on Monday this week.

“I also recognise the commitment of Ministers since January to ensure services and functions of their Ministries continue to be delivered.

“I thank in particular, the Minister of Finance, Minister for Planning and Minister for Infrastructure Development.

“I said this because I have already received a letter for the purchase of part of the fleet of Machines this year to maintain and construct the road from Ruavatu to Marau,” Hon Avui said.

He added that this is a particular 60km stretch of road has been much talked about by past Governments but was never fixed.

“My ears and those of my good people are sick and tired of hearing assurance’s after assurances from the past Governments to maintain this stretch of Road.

“I am however comforted by the Solomon Star stating that this stretch of road will be upgraded this year. I thank the Government for seeing to the need of my people,” Avui added.

Hon Ishmael Avui then expressed how disheartened on the same note that the provincial declared feeder roads were also never maintained.

The feeder roads in the wards he added, are the responsibility of the Province and he highly expects that the Provincial MPAs to work collaboratively with Members of Parliament to maintain feeder roads.

“Perhaps the Minister of Finance should divert the Provincial ward grants for those of us with machines.

“The ward grants should assist us fund salaries of plant operators and fuel to maintain the feeder roads. Ward grants Mr Speaker is good money thrown into the sea,” MP for East Central Guadalcanal added.

He then proposed that the best option for provincial grants would be to invest in building and maintaining infrastructure including roads.
