289 scholarships awarded to In-Service and Pre-Service
THE Solomon Islands Government has awarded a total of 289 scholarships to In-Service and Pre-Service to do tertiary studies in-country and abroad this year.
In a scholarship list released by the National Training Unit (NTU) 91 scholarship has been awarded to individuals under the Pre-Service sector this year to do tertiary study at universities abroad – Fiji, PNG and Philippines.
With those 91 SIG recipients, 26 are females and 65 males.
On the other hand, a total of 196 scholarships were awarded to In-Service with 80 being female and 116 male.
Each year, SIG has given out more scholarship to Solomon Islands’ students who have made valuable contribution to its organisations, and this year In-Service is the highest.
In the meantime, the Director for NTU, Mr Clement Tito said the Pre-Service is awarded most to form seven for excelling academically based on qualification to pursue higher programmes – form seven upgrading and school based programme.
Mr Tito said most scholarships awarded to individual students for both categories secure placement in tertiary studies in universities in the Pacific, Australia, Philippines and other parts around the globe.
Meanwhile, to Pre-Service students whose name appear in the list, NTU advices due date for submit admission is no later than January 23.
