20th DOM diocesan synod on June 19

THE Anglican diocese of Malaita’s 20th diocesan synod will commence on June 19 at Forau village in East Fataleka.

The synod is the highest decision making body within the church which discusses church issues regarding in both spiritual and physical developments within the Anglican diocese of Malaita.

According to the diocesan secretary of the Anglican diocese of Malaita, Mr Anthony Maelasi, the official opening ceremony of this synod will be on June 18, 2017, at Forau village.

The actual meeting will commence on June 19 and end on June 23.

The guest of Honour for this 20th diocesan synod is the Deputy Prime Minister of Solomon Islands, Hon Manasseh Maelanga.

Hon Manasseh Maelanga is the current diocesan coordinator of the companions for the Melanesian brotherhood.

Mr Maelasi added that the synod will consist of the Diocesan bishop, DOM admin, clergies and laities and reps from all the church institutes within diocese of Malaita.

He also added that during this synod “we will be electing a new assistant bishop for south malaita where at the moment a retired Bishop is currently a caretaker assistance bishop for south Malaita”.
