Youth leaders in Fiji for Ola Fou workshop

FOURTEEN aspiring youth leaders of Solomon Islands under Ola Fou programme joined other Pacific Island countries for their Diploma Block-one session in Fiji this week.
The event takes place in Deuba, from March 12—18, convening six Pacific island countries and regarded as important for block-one students and internship-block students around the Pacific region under Ola Fou youth development programme.
The main purpose is to train the diploma students and internship-block by equipping them with knowledge and skills for teaching new intakes for certificate in youth development programme under the Ola Fou.
The Solomon Islands delegation consists of 10 Diploma block-one students and two internship-block students, and three team members; four from Malaita, three from Honiara and three from Western province.
The diploma block-one students will spend three days in introductory to youth development and Activity Based Learning (ABL) while the internship block students will be trained for teaching introduction to youth development.
They join teams and interns from Vanuatu, New Zealand, PNG, Tonga and Fiji, putting together its teachings, reviewing assessments, submitting reports and planning for next year’s programme.
The Team Leader for Solomon Islands delegation, Patricia Zana Samuel, said the training young leaders attended in Fiji is essential for aspiring young leaders’ knowledge and skills back in their own communities.
“What I want to see is, the inputs facilitators from New Zealand and Australia will give to our participants attended the workshop even though introduction they will get as much knowledge what Ola Fou will offer,” Patricia said.
Looking at the workshop, Patricia said there will be qualified trainers in their specific field of youth development programme which young leaders will acquired powerful knowledge and skills to demonstrate on the course of four-day.
Generally, young leaders of Solomon Islands under Ola Fou when asked before its flight on Saturday expressed they appreciation the programme saying it supports them with knowledge and skills toolkit for youth development in the community.
