West Honiara communities receive projects

FIVE communities within West Honiara Constituency have received $100,000 each as part of the constituency’s Feeder Road Project.

Constituency Development Officer of West Honiara Constituency, Mr Brian Taupiri, handed over the projects to representatives from the communities during a hand-over ceremony yesterday.

Mr Taupiri said the implementation of the project will be guided by a legal document – a constitution signed by community representatives.

He said the projects are to assist communities improve road access for better road service within West Honiara Constituency.

Mr Taupiri explained that the model is new with risk factors, however the constituency is hoping that the new approach will work out well.

He also said that the new approach establishes new connection between the communities and the constituency office in implementing development projects.

“This plan was initiated six months ago and now we are here to hand over the funds to the communities for this purpose.

“We put our trust and confident to the communities to successfully implement these projects,” he said.

Mr Taupiri said the communities have opened their bank accounts and that the funds will be deposited to the respective bank accounts.

He said the constituency office has put trust and responsibility on the communities to carry out what is required to successfully implement the projects.

On the same note, Mr Taupiri urges communities to work together in the implementation of the projects.

“If you do well, it will be a start of a good thing in the future,” he said.

Mr Taupiri explained that the fund is part of the $1.5million Transport Fund the constituency received last year.

He said part of the fund were used to purchase four trucks for Tamlan School, St John School, Bishop Epalle School and the Constituency Truck and the remaining $500,000 were the ones distributed to the communities.

Speaking on behalf of the communities, Mr Robert Samani from Wind Ridge Community acknowledged the constituency for the great initiative.

He said the new approach will give the communities opportunity to be part of the constituency’s development programmes.

Mr Samani said communities are very happy to be part of the development.

He assures the constituency office that the communities will try their best to successfully implement the projects.
