Weather outlook fine for next 3 months
THE weather agency in Solomon Islands predicts fine weather across the country for the next three months.
The information was released by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology through its Division confirming its prediction starting from March to May.
The MET agency highlighted general moderate weather in terms of no-rainfall guidance to most parts of Solomon Islands.
The occurrence is also expected for the central region station, which covers Henderson, Honiara and Auki.
Following that, the outlook for above-normal rainfall is possible for Kirakira while normal rainfall will be Lata in the eastern region.
“We are now in wet season, November 2016 to April 2017, and the neutral condition of El Niño southern oscillation may contribute to normal condition in most part of Solomon Islands from March to May,” Met Division said.
“As the wet season progresses a neutral tropical condition may yield near average Tercile Classes (TC) activity.”
The MET Division explained the peak period of tropical cyclone (TC) in Solomon Islands is usually from January to February; and the strongest TC anomalies were focused on the southwest of the country which is associated with displaced South Pacific Convergence Zone (SPCZ) during this time of the year.
Solomon Islands are likely to expect one or two TC in this season, the MET service report.
In the mean time, MET service advised communities in the islands and centres to listen to SIBC for daily weather and climate events.
